If diesel and lubricating oil are compared to human blood, then the filter is equivalent to human kidneys. Since it is equivalent to a kidney, its importance is self-evident, as its working state directly affects the performance and lifespan of the engine. From the popularization of the national three common rail system to the current national five system, although people have a deeper understanding of filters and know that inferior filters can easily destroy expensive fuel injectors, they are unaware that the wrong installation process is equally dangerous
Some card users may say, "It's not difficult to replace a filter, just remove it and screw it on." Indeed, the replacement process is very simple, but many people have made irreparable mistakes in this simple process. What is the specific error? That is to fill the inside of the filter with oil before installing it
It is very common to fill the inside of the filter with oil before installing it. Most people do this whether they are diesel filters or oil filter. In fact, it is understandable to fill the oil filter with oil before installation, because the new oil has good cleanliness, and the oil filter cannot exhaust manually, filling it with oil can reduce the time for the oil to reach the lubricating part, which plays a role in protecting the engine. But if the diesel filter is still operated in this way, it will have the opposite effect
The method of pre filling the filter with oil to avoid exhaust has a long history, dating back to the early widespread use of diesel engines. At that time, almost all diesel engines used mechanical pump fuel injection systems, and the requirements for fuel cleanliness were not very high. In addition, the small displacement and poor reliability of the hand pump made it very difficult to exhaust after replacing the filter. That's why people invented this alternative method of pre filling without exhaust. I have to admit that this method is indeed very effective
Since the engine entered the era of common rail, the fuel system, especially the fuel injectors, has become very precise. A little impurity may cause expensive fuel injectors to be scrapped. However, many people still use the previous method of replacing filters, resulting in unfiltered diesel directly entering the inner cavity of the filter. If the diesel contains particulate impurities at this time, it will directly cause wear and damage to the fuel injectors
The correct replacement method is to first remove the old filter, and then directly install the new filter onto the filter base. Then, loosen the vent bolt on the base or oil pump, and press the hand oil pump to exhaust until the new filter is filled and there are no bubbles on the vent bolt. Due to the large internal filtering area and capacity of the current filter, the exhaust process may be slow. Don't be afraid of trouble, just press the hand oil pump a few more times.
